Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane

Act as a Flight Instructor on an Aeroplane


Flight Training:

30 hours flight time in an aeroplane with a Class 1 Flight Instuctor.


Medical Fitness:

An applicant shall hold a valid category 1 medical certificate.


Ground School Training:


An FIR applicant must attend a minimum of 25 hours of approved ground school. This course consists of a series of lectures aimed at fully preparing the student for not only the required Transport Canada examinations but also safe and satisfying teaching techniques. The subjects dealt with in the ground school include Air Law, Aeronautics, Navigation, Meteorology etc. Individual instruction will be given as required. 


Written Examination:

A Transport Canada written exam is required

  • You must obtain a minimum of 70% in the AIRAF exam.


Flight Test:

Successfully complete a flight test to a Transport Canada Class 3 Flight Instructor standard.


Course Enrollment:

Students may enroll at any time and commence flight training at their convenience; however ground school timetables will be established and published for varied times.


Enrollment Requirements:


To start ground school: 

Complete CPL written exam and flight test and have completed 200 hours total time.

To start flight training:

 Hold a valid Canadian CPL.


Minimum age to hold the licence is 18 years.


An applicant must be a Canadian citizen, a landed immigrant, or a person bearing a valid study permit. 


An applicant must be able to read exam questions and write the answers in either English or French, without assistance.


Actual Training Hours & Cost:

The actual training hours would vary based on individual progress or needs.

Our aircraft rates for local students is $180per hour and Instruction rates are $55per hour. These rates do not include taxes. (Prices are subject to change without notice)
